Who we are

Wali Zahid

President, Islamabad

Wali Zahid is a Pakistani futurist, speaker, social media strategist and blogger. His blog, walizahid.com, is the most authentic place on everything Pakistan.

Wali was one of the first bloggers to post about CPEC as a game changer and THE first to publish an in-country post on BRI.

Known for his widely-read Pakistan2050 forecast, Wali appears on national TV, occasionally writes for The News and speaks about CPEC and BRI enthusiastically. He was part of the first nationwide brainstorming on Vision 2025 at Planning Commission in 2013.

Wali's early work life was as a journalist where he worked for Dawn, The Nation and becoming Editor of The News, Lahore in 1991. He later worked briefly at BBC London. Later, he established Institute of Media & Communications (IMC) in Islamabad which offered training courses in print and TV journalism, advertising, cartooning and PR.

Wali has been a China watcher for 30 years and has seen China grow from just another country to become world's next superpower.

Wali was an early adapter to online media, using email by 1994, first website in 1997, and early user of LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

His Twitter followers include US President Barack Obama, several Pakistani ministers and media people. His Facebook page has over 150k fans and LinkedIn over 30k followers.

Dr Zafar Hussain

Director, Beijing

Our Director Dr Zafar Hussain is a Media and Communication Science specialist and currently working as a Project Manager in China Economic Net, Beijing, China.

Previously, he served as a Correspondent of Geo TV in China.

Zafar has worked closely with the journalist community for the past decade and acquired a unique skillset to establish an outreach with media and news agencies in Pakistan and China.

In the backdrop of the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CEPC), Zafar's consultancy projects to domestic and foreign missions due to his deep understanding of this project have been received very well.

Zafar received his PhD degree from the Communication University of China, Beijing in 2017. His research interest includes analyzing a journalist's approach covering Belt and Road issues in China and Pakistan.

Shahid Afraz Khan

Director, Beijing

Shahid Afraz Khan is a broadcaster by profession. He is serving Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) as a Senior Producer. At present, he is associated with Urdu Service of China Media Group Beijing (CMG). CMG's Urdu service was launched in 1966 and it is playing a bridging role in promoting bilateral ties between China and Pakistan.

Being a broadcast journalist based in Beijing, Shahid is also playing an active role in promoting bilateral relations between China and Pakistan. He has presented various programs related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, China-Pakistan friendship, produced special documentaries/features and discussion programs on various aspects of socioeconomic development of China.

Shahid has coauthored a book, Cheen Meri Nazar Main which got published in 2018 and is a winner of World Radio Contest 2019.

Shahid has also served as the PBC special correspondent to President of Pakistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2008 to 2014. While on duty he had the opportunity to visit various places at home and abroad. He had paid official visits to Japan, Kuwait, China, Turkey, Iran, France, South Korea, UAE, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

As a youngest Pakistani journalist, Shahid also has the unique honor to cover the US presidential election in 2012 and to visit various US states.

Yasir Habib Khan

Director, Lahore

As a media practitioner, Yasir Habib Khan has a vast experience in national and international media houses. By pitching articles and opinion pieces on China-Pakistan ties, CPEC, BRI, international relations, diplomacy, politics, governance, human rights and economy, he has made everybody sit up and take notice of real issues.

At national level, he works for Geo TV, The Nation, The News TNS, Daily Times, Dawn and Pakistan Today. For foreign media, Yasir writes for China Today, China Economic Net, China Radio International and South China Morning Post.

Yasir also had a short stint in The Washington Post.

The Chinese government has conferred on him China Friendly Netizen 2017 Award. During 5th CPEC media forum in 2019, Yasir received Golden Anchor Communication Award.

International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in collaboration with US State Department also awarded him scholarship on US-Pakistan Professional Partnership Program for Journalists.

Yasir worked as a senior journalist for four weeks in California's mainstream newspaper Sacramento Bee.

Yasir also had a distinction as founding member of three newspapers - Express Tribune, Pakistan Today and Dunya.

Yasir has a masters degree in Mass Communication.
